I recently came across references to the idea of
adding scripting to mutt:
http://www.archivum.info/[email protected]/2013-01/00120/Re-Lua-vis-a-vis-Python.html
I wanted to say that a scriptable email client is
a very useful thing. Although it is in no way as
complete as Mutt I have been working on a console
mail-client with integrated Lua.
This work is available here http://github.com/skx/lumail/
and there are is a lot of documentation online at
http://lumail.org/
The reason for this message isn't so much self-promotion,
though far be it from me to stop, but mostly to see if there
are any plans for this in the future?
Questions raised in the past include "Why would you want it?"
and "What would you do with it?". I hope that some of the
examples here would be compelling answers:
http://lumail.org/examples/
(For example marking messages as read by regexp, viewing
all unread messages - regardless of the containing folder,
dumping a log of unread mail to disk, or even sending out
new emails programatically.)
