Comment (by kevin8t8):

 Looks like this is due to goofy Received lines:

 {{{
 Received: from a9-40.smtp-out.amazonses.com (a9-40.smtp-out.amazonses.com
 [54.240.9.40]);
         by cent.mikejsavage.co.uk (OpenSMTPD) with ESMTPS id 9775a66f;
         TLS version=TLSv1/SSLv3 cipher=ECDHE-RSA-AES128-SHA bits=128
 verify=NO;
         for <xxx@xxxxxx>;
         Mon, 21 Dec 2015 20:25:02 +0000 (UTC)
 }}}

 Note the ';' at the end of each line. Mutt is expecting the date right
 after the first ';' in the Received header. I'll take a closer look later
 today, but I'd guess the mutt_parse_date()'s buffer isn't big enough to
 hold the hold string and the date isn't being parsed.
