Sorry I can't duplicate this. The code already appears to pad (up to
destlen) if we haven't filled to min_width.
Have you tried setting left justification along with min and max in your
index format?

This is working for me. The second and third mail have additional
multicolumn characters that are truncated and padded:

(By the way, in any case I believe your patch doesn't take destlen into
account, and so could overflow dest.)
I'm marking this as worksforme, but if I've misunderstood, please feel
