Reading your "Why" section in the README, it feels like the central goals are solved by the windows patch. The proposal's approach may be more flexible, but I don't know that it addresses a strong need compared to the probable size of the change. As always, I invite others to chime in and tell me how I'm wrong and am being too conservative, but in general I'd like to see "evolution", not "revolution" in the codebase. -- Kevin J.
