BTW, the INSTALL file contains:
--with-bundled-regex
use bundled GNU regex instead of local regexp routines. Many systems
don't have the POSIX compliant regcomp/regexec/regfree
routines, so this provides a way to support them.
This was already there in the initial revision in 1998 (and has only
been slightly modified):
--with-rx

This is probably obsolete and misleading.
