There are a couple of external programs available that you can use as your application/octet-stream viewer. They analyze the attachment and invoke the appropriate actual viewer. This is explained in more detail here, along with links to the programs: http://www.spocom.com/users/gjohnson/mutt/default.htm#octet There is also a patch available that enables mutt to do the viewer selection internally, but I don't have the details handy.
