Check the manual (/usr/local/doc/mutt/manual.txt in SuSE), for:

  6.3.15.  attribution

  Type: string
  Default: "On %d, %n wrote:"

  This is the string that will precede a message which has been included
  in a reply.  For a full listing of defined printf()-like sequences see
  the section on ``$index_format''''.
