this happens on imap folders only?
and why is there color when mutt's
default is to show no color at all?
so what is your color configuration?

does the same happen with mutt
linked to slang (1.4.6 now)?

this following works fine for me:
  color indicator white red
perhaps your setup is using
some "default" color there?

please - don't CC yourself -
especially when sending to
a mailing list.  some people
never get it right with
group-reply vs list-reply...

use "Bcc: self" - or "set copy"
along with "set record=!".
