If you intend on keeping everything on your IMAP server, no, you do
not need to have mutt do *anything* with any mbox-related settings,
with one exception: $mbox and $spoolfile. You probably just want to
have something like this:
set folder=imap://...stuff...
set spoolfile=+
set mbox=+
For an explanation as to why that might be, read the documentation
about $spoolfile and $mbox. (The $mbox variable is somewhat poorly
named.)
