There's no way to interrupt that doesn't kill mutt; but you have a few
options:
1. control-\ (in most terminals, this sends a SIGKILL)
2. use kill (using killall is not very precise)
You can also reduce the length of time that mutt will wait for
connection timeouts (modify $connect_timeout).
