It's not about outdated or up-to-date, please use the manual for the version of mutt you're using which should be installed locally. http://www.mutt.org/doc/manual/ says it applies to version 1.4.2.3 which is still the lates official stable release (to which the manual at dev.mutt.org in parts doesn't apply).
