Here's what I do:
  set edit_headers=yes
  set editor=muttedit
  set autoedit=yes

Now, muttedit mostly just runs the reply process in a screen session; it does
some work to give the session a good name.

If I complete the reply immediately (as now), it's all seamless.

But if I want to defer the reply for later, I simply detach from screen
and reattach later. Here's this message in progress:

  There are screens on:
          [...]
          30780.mutt-30mar2010-18:58 Re_FAQ_How_to_spawn_ (Attached)
  14 Sockets in /tmp/screen-cameron.
