Here's what I do: set edit_headers=yes set editor=muttedit set autoedit=yes Muttedit is here: http://www.cskk.ezoshosting.com/cs/css/bin/muttedit Now, muttedit mostly just runs the reply process in a screen session; it does some work to give the session a good name. If I complete the reply immediately (as now), it's all seamless. But if I want to defer the reply for later, I simply detach from screen and reattach later.
