You can check in ~/.abook/abookrc if you have your index_format variable 
correctly set. F.ex. mine has this setting to show the fields I want in 
the abook interface:

set index_format=" {name:25} {email:30} {nick:5} {workphone:-12} 
{mobile:-12} {title:20} {notes} "
