I set the mark at the top and then move the cursor down the page until coming to a section I wish to comment upon. I delete the region between the mark and point. Then move down after the sentence(s) I wish to comment upon. Then open several lines with C-o and type in my response. Then I set the mark again and move more down the quoted reply until finding another section I wish to comment upon. Then again delete the region with C-w. Then C-o to open up a line to post my comment. Then repeat as desired. So as you can see you want to be at the top of the message when you start your reply. If you were at the bottom of the message then you would have to move up from the bottom and that would be backwards. You don't want to do that. And of course you wouldn't want to leave the entire message in place either as that would be rude. Bob
