Hmm...  Well...  Thanks for giving it a try!  Sorry it didn't work out.

I have exactly the same behavior on a different mailing and the above
works okay for me.  I *can* list-reply to it in the described
configuration even without the 'L' flag showing that mutt knows how to
do it and without a 'subscribe' line for it.  But you tried it and it
isn't working for you so something is different between the different
mailing lists that is causing the different behavior.

For me when I tested that just now it didn't have any noticeable
behavior change.  Which makes sense for me since list-reply already
works without it.

And that is the end of my knowledge of the mutt side of this problem.
Hopefully someone else on the list will have a better idea.  Otherwise
your best option now might be to filter the incoming messages and
"fix" them so that they work for you.  I use procmail and formail for
such things.
