That sounds like you have your TERM environment variable set incorrectly for iTerm2. I'm not sure what the right TERM setting is, but if you're currently using something like "vt100", you might be able to fix it by setting your TERM to "xterm".
You should also be able to fix it by pressing ctrl-L - that forces a terminal clear and redraw.
