I don't believe that error message occurs when sending an email. It would occur if you manually tried to copy or save a message to a POP3 mailbox.

You might try increasing the debug level to 2 or 3 and seeing if you can watch the messages just when you try to send.
By chance do you have the "record" variable set to a POP3 mailbox? That wouldn't work either.
