TIMES NEWS NETWORK (Today's Times of India) Chennai: Sify Technologies Ltd, an internet and technology comany, is planning to axe a few jobs. Sources told The Times of India that about 20 employees are likely to be asked to leave from the interactive division in Chennai while a list of another 30-40 persons across the country is being prepared in the enterprise division of the company. Sify employs more than 4,000 people in India. “I can confirm that people are being retrenched. It is a part of the cost cutting measures of the company,” a source said. Sify officials claimed that this was a ‘normal’ and routine process of the company and happens every year after the mid-year appraisals.“In fact, we are hiring people for the enterprise division. There is an annual midyear review process that happens every year and is normal. Some of the employees may have been given salary increase. People who did not measure upto performance in the midyear review are asked to leave. But it is a very small number and is based on performance,” a Sify spokesperson said. The spokesperson said unlike other IT companies, Sify’s operations were largely based in India and had no exposure to the global downturn. “This performance review happens across all departments.” Sify, listed on the NASDAQ, had posted a 9% increase in revenues at $34.40 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2008 compared to the corresponding period the previous year.
