Hi Martin...

Ok, tried again with no symbolic links but still get a blank screen.
I looked at the /usr/share/mvpmc/connect.log and didn't see anything
that stuck out. I also looked at the vlc log and didn't see anything
bad at first - finally, in the vlc log, there are repeated warnings
(about 1 ever 4 seconds):
-----
ffmpeg warning: Error at MB: 1145
  ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
ffmpeg debug: concealing 53 DC, 53 AC, 53 MV errors
  ([EMAIL PROTECTED]
-----
What does stick out is the output where mvpmc was invoked:
----
Freeing PAT Decoder
Initializing PAT Decoder
Setting WSS aspect to: 8
playlist: play item '(null)', file '/mnt/audio/video.avi' key 6
Starting to play audio file '/mnt/audio/video.avi'
screensaver disable
screensaver disable
Changing to aspect 0, afd 0
Video aspect reported as ZERO - not changing setting
audio write thread running
http opened /mnt/audio/video.avi
video write thread running
Freeing PAT Decoder
Initializing PAT Decoder
write threads released
auto detection transport stream returned 1
http opened (null)
Open failed errno 14 file (null)
video open failed!

mpeg read thread sleeping...
----

If you want, I can cut and past everything if you think that will help.

    ...thanks
