If you're going to do all that, why not use a single-board-computer (SBC) that incorporates an Ethernet port, such as some of the products listed here: http://linuxdevices.com/articles/AT8498487406.html For example, the Picotux: http://www.linuxdevices.com/news/NS8386088053.html http://www.picotux.com/ Though the 100 Eur price is on the high side if you don't need something that small. It should be possible to cobble something together for under $100 US. In any case, this would permit building a module independent of the MVP that could be sold as a ready-to-use device. mvpmc software could be enhanced to control the device. Didn't you already have an IR transceiver on your list that had an Ethernet interface? > Leaving the power LED on all the time and flooding the room w/ IR light > was though to be a problem. Yes, but IR remote systems use a modulated carrier in part to avoid problems with "DC" sources of IR, like sunlight coming through a window. As long as you aren't overloading the receiver, it should be unaffected by a constant source of IR. But I also wonder, if you're going to bother with such a hardware hack, there's a good chance that there is an unused I/O on the micro that could be put to this use without overloading the power LED functionality. > Adding a 40KHz oscillator would reduce the IBM PowerPC processor load to > only modulating the IR LED. The LIRC community probably has tons on info on this. > With the exception of B&O, I thought most (if not all others) operated > around 40KHz. Could be. I seem to recall hearing something like that as well. -Tom ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc.
