I haven't seen such an error. I presume the author of the error message believes that a DNS lookup is timing out. You're probably using IP addresses on the mvpmc command line, anyway, which should make the /etc/hosts file irrelevant. So what else might cause Live TV to timeout? How big is your channel lineup?
