I have seen it before, but only on videos that I later confirmed were damaged 
at 
  that point.   Did it play all of the way through with mplayer?   And do you 
have the latest version of mplayer/mencoder on your system?

You might collect the mencoder command line it is using, and post the question 
to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] and see if anyone there has any ideas.
