The database connection is used for less essential functionality, like 
skipping commercials, and setting bookmarks, and is not required for 
basic video playback (which uses the MythTV protocol).

If you're seeing this error, then there is likely an incompatibility in 
the MythTV protocol. If you want to expedite getting mvpmc fixed to be 
compatible, you might be able to help by identifying the specific MythTV 
SVN revision where things broke, and file a ticket for that on mvpmc's 
issue tracker on Sourceforge.net. (If you do this, follow up here with a 
link to the new ticket.)
