If they distribute hardware with a Linux Kernel and you have obtained an instance of this hardware from them, the terms of the GPLV2 oblige them to provide source code. If they don't supply it on request there are organisations out there interested in enforcing the license, and if the manufacturer (or others within the supply chain) don't comply they are in the same legal position as someone pirating proprietary software.
