Neat. It's a tiny box in the form factor of a 2.5" notebook drive enclosure (drive not included, I assume). In fact it can double as an external USB drive for a computer. All the media player hardware is stuck on the underside of the PCB that the drive mounts to. Some internal pictures here: http://cgi.ebay.com/HDX-Bone-Network-Media-Player-with-Google-Andriod-OS_W0QQitemZ200475054902QQcategoryZ167QQcmdZViewItem#vi-content and: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1234345 So apparently it dual-boots either Android or some proprietary OS (Linux derivative?) with their own media player. The idea being that you use their media player for normal playback of local media, and Android for web browsing and streaming content. Not clear where these two OSs live. I'm assuming it is on some sort of Flash storage, if the HD isn't included with the product. I wonder why they went after an Android port, rather than something like Linux + XBMC. Well...I can see the point to Android - even if just for the marketing benefits - but I'd rather have a single OS with wide media support (and a MythTV client) *and* web/streaming support, rather than switching between two OSs. Maybe they'll stick with Android and port over their media player to it. I'll be curious to see what the various open source communities make of this hardware, and whether the manufacturer supports them. Is HD Digitech the same company that was behind one of the earliest media players that used the "Networked Media Tank" (NMT) name, or is that just a common phrase in this space? -Tom ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This SF.net email is sponsored by Make an app they can't live without Enter the BlackBerry Developer Challenge http://p.sf.net/sfu/RIM-dev2dev _______________________________________________ Mvpmc-users mailing list [email protected] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/mvpmc-users mvpmc wiki: http://mvpmc.wikispaces.com/
