I figured out a way to use my MVP as a Squeezebox while bypassing the SLIMP3
client (newer Squeezebox Servers don't play well with our client).

This was surprisingly easy although it required me to rejigger a few things
on my network.

Most of the time I use a Squeezebox, I just set it to Random Play->Song, so I
don't usually need much control access to the Server.

I found a way to invoke the Random Play plugin via direct URI:

http://<SBS IP>:<port#>/plugins/RandomPlay/mix.html?type=track&player=<player
IP>&addOnly=0

I added a static DHCP reservation for my MVP to keep player IP consistent,
and added that URI to my MVPs SMB share directory as an M3U playlist file. I
also added a second M3U playlist containing the Squeezebox Server's stream URI:

http://<SBS IP>:<port#>/stream.mp3

Now, when I want to play tunes, I use the MVP File Browser to navigate to its
shared directory and fire up the SB_PLAY.M3U playlist to start the stream. I
then fire up the SB_RANDOM.M3U playlist to fill the MVPs music queue.

This is really stable; I left it playing almost two days straight without a
hiccup. I'll get a lot more use out of my MVP now. Heck, with this technique
I could put some old used MVPs back in service!

  Ron
