Thanks Ralf...I thought I had the gcc but I didn't have the core
package...just compat and libgcc.  After installing gcc...this is the
error I get now:

USING: mwlib.templ.nodes mwlib/templ/nodes.c
USING: mwlib.templ.evaluate mwlib/templ/evaluate.c
gcc: error trying to exec 'cc1plus': execvp: No such file or directory
error: Setup script exited with error: command 'gcc' failed with exit
status 1
