This is relevant information. What I do not understand at all is this:
If $wgCollectionMWServeCredentials is required, why can I render pages
in the Main Namespace? That's protected too. It doesn't seem like
there's any difference between namespace 1 and namespace 100.

For what it is worth:
- I have provided EVERY EFFORT to allow you to help me. I am
handcuffed by our situation here (see below).
- We have system administrators, thank you.
- The lockdown extension works for us, 100%. I don't remember seeing
its beta status.
- No one here has been able to get a render server configured. I asked
before for someone to create a VMWare image on ubuntu. If I had that,
I could answer 90% of these questions myself.

Finally, my configuration is as follows:
- I am an engineer and the primary contributor to my corporation's
public-facing documentation wiki.
- We use the lockdown extension so that average users can read pages
without editing them. (Customers editing doc = bad)
- Our MIS department houses the PC on which our MediaWiki runs, and
all other website-related machines. I do not have physical access to
this box. Only a handful of people in our entire corporation can get
to it.
- This configuration is what prevents me from doing what I want to
attempt configuration tweaks and/or to test/verify things for you.

I did not anticipate this discussion to get out of hand. I just need
an answer, as I am being asked about this problem almost daily, now.
Clearly the answer to this (and other issues) is to get our own
renderer.
