--- Rationale ---
The feature "Start date without due date" (#F349) have been requested
many times in this forum. I miss this feature every week at least once
and I'm unhappy that it's not in discussion anymore.

I will not list the benefits of this feature, as they are documented
[1], [2], [3] and the usefulness is generally accepted.

Yes, I've seen all the proposed workarounds. They do not more than the
term says: they "work around" a flaw. For me it's simply not
convenient to set up one (or even more) dummy actions and clicking
them away - just to prevent that one action appears earlier than I
need it.

On the other hand I perfectly understand why Andrey hesitates to even
consider a fix, as he explains in [4] it would "affect the internal
architecture significantly". I know the horrors of changing the
architecture of a complex software system.

But if it is to difficult to *change* an action attribute, it is
probably much easier to *add* one.

--- Suggestion ---
Expand the Task To-Do Visibility option with an expiration date field,
labelled "Until" or similar.

(((A)))
If the task visibility option "Show task normally" is selected, the
date field is disabled and ignored.

(((B)))
If the task visibility option "Hide the branch" or "Hide only this" is
selected, the date field is active, and there are three cases:
1)
Date is empty
--> The task visibility works as it says in the selected option ("as
before").
2)
Date is in the future
--> The task visibility works as it says in the selected option ("as
beforeā€œ).
3)
Date is today's date or in the past
--> The selected task visibility option is overridden by option "Show
task normally"

PS:
To maintain consistency to the start/due date fields, the expiration
date field could be supplemented with an optional time field.

PPS:
It is also discussible to have a validity time interval instead of an
expiration date.

--- Use ---
To express that an action should/could not be done before a certain
date, hide it until this date, and it will show up on the to-do lists
in time.

Best regards, Andreas
