This may be one possible solution to how to deal with start/due dates & lead time. The example shown below comes from Corel's Paint Shop Pro. While resizing an image, if "Lock aspect ratio" is checked (a lock icon appears, to visually indicate that the two fields are coupled), then any modifications made to either the image's Width or Height also affects the other. If the box is un-checked (no lock icon is displayed), then Width and Height are decoupled, and can be modified independent of each other. Applied to MLO, a similar checkbox (and lock icon) could determine if Start and End dates are coupled (fixing the Lead Time), or decoupled (allowing the Lead Time to float). An improvement would be to eliminate the checkbox, and instead click on the lock icon itself to toggle it.
