You may want to consider filtering the tasks that get synchronized to Outlook. I personally have a large number of items in MLO, many of which are lists or other reference type information that are not necessary for the more task oriented information I need in Outlook. I have set up a specific view with filters that I want synced to Outlook and then use the "Remove tasks from Outlook not visible in MLO To-Do View:" option to sync only those tasks.
