Dear all,

currently, I am making the n-th attempt to use MLO efficiently in my
work environment. Don't get me wrong, MLO is still the best tools for
task management I know of, and I have tried many so far. My MLO-life
would be so much more comfortable if more possibilities to categorize
tasks existed. Currently, MLO is two-dimensional.
Dimension 1 is the list of tasks I have.
Dimension 2 is the one or more contexts that go with the task.

I am referring to MonkeyGTD a little bit -- mGTD offers
 - a realm (e. g. "Work", "Personal")
 - an area (e. g. "Budget", "Friends")
 - contact information about the person I delegated a task to
 - multiple contexts *and additionally* the possibility to mark a task
as "future" (e. g. Someday/Maybe) and "waiting for"

Of course, I can rebuild this in MLO. I can imagine two ways to do so:
1) create an outline which reflects realm, area, projects and tasks,
e. g.
Work
_Budget
__ProjectBudget1
___TaskBudget1
__ProjectBudget2
_Operations
__ProjectOperations1
...
Personal
_Friends
__ProjectFriends1
___TaskFriends1
__ProjectFriends2
_Family
__ProjectFamily1
...

=> Result: Immense effort to create the outline, plus moving tasks
from the Inbox into one of the projects takes a while.

2) Use contexts with different designators which reflect realm, area,
e. g.
!Personal
!Work
+Budget
+Operations
+Friends
+Family
@Waiting For
@Tickler
@Someday

=> Result: many contexts have to be added to one single task.

Additionally, creating To-Do-Views on a growing amount of contexts can
get complicated.
a) the more contexts a task has, the more often it will be repeated in
a view grouped by context
e. g.: "Call Bob" has contexts: !Work; +Budget; @Phone; -Bob;
The view "Active Actions by Context" will repeat the same task "Call
Bob" four times (obviously, because I *have* to assign contexts
instead of other flags).
Context: !Work
 Call Bob
Context: +Budget
 Call Bob
Context: @Phone
 Call Bob
Context: -Bob
 Call Bob

I couldn't find a possibility to get rid of the repeating tasks,
neither a complicated set of filter rules nor a grouping function.
Why I need so many contexts?
 - I want to know whether a task is a personal or a work one; I want
MLO to organize my personal life, too, and there are no multiple
instances allowed.
 - I do not insist on +Budget, indeed, but it could also be "+Agenda"
because the task should be remembered for the next meeting, or because
I can either give Bob a ring or talk to him when I meet him
 - I need the @Phone, because I need to know what to do in which
context
 - I need "-Bob", because I can create a list on everything I need to
talk about with Bob

b) The more contexts I need, the more complicated the filter
administration will get. Until recently, I used to exclude (contexts
does not contain) +Tickler and @Waiting for. Later I decided to add a
new context, +Someday, and because I do not want to see +Someday
contexts in my action lists, I had to adjust no less than 5 or 6 views/
filters to reflect the new context.

Has all this already been discussed or considered?

Thanks alot,

NiMhurchu
