Yes. I had this same problem as well. I solved it by not
using "regenerate task one day after I complete this task" but
instead "recur every day (or every weekday)". When I don't get to
the task for several days, I click the "skip recurrence" button and
say, "all recurrences up to today" (or I just complete it 3 times to
get it current).

Then in advanced, I say, "do not create duplicate copies," so that I
won't have a zillion of them as completed tasks.

Let me know if that is confusing and I can tell you exact names for
the fields; I'm going by memory right now.

The other thing you can play with is whether you have the parent
recur, or the children. I have some of both. For example, my
"evening routine" has tasks that I don't want to show up until 9 pm
(close down apps for backing up, for example), but it also has tasks
that I might pick off earlier in the afternoon, like preparing things
for the next day. So for those, I have the children recur, and they
have different start times. (By the way you can select multiple
tasks and apply just the date changes to them all at once). I have
other parent tasks which are more of a "block" - I'm going to do the
subtasks all together. For those, I let the children inherit parent
dates, so that I can have all tasks reset when I click on the
parent's complete checkbox.
