When you send to a google group, I've noticed you get your copy even before the moderator posts the message. Then when they do you don't get another copy even if you are on the mailing list.
You mentioned that you "pop" your gmail. Do you get a copy of your posts if you use gmail through the browser? If so then I think you are getting filtered in one of gmails "open relay" or spam filters when you send from your normal mail program...
