Ok, it's NOT MLO on Android, which Andrey knows I'm a huge supporter
for and am waiting anxiously :) This is basic. But I have a
temporary sync solution working through Outlook if anyone would like
to try to duplicate it :)
I'm sending this to the main group and the Android group, but please
follow up on Android group ([email protected]).
I just got it working this morning so it could be buggy! If you
want to try this, backup everything first! And I suggest testing
each step first, and leaving sync on manual for a while. If you
already are heavily using Outlook--MLO Sync, you might not want to
try this, or create new data files to try it out on first. I really
didn't have anything to lose (except time) because I haven't been
using Outlook tasks for ages.
You should already be familiar with MLO views and filtering.
What I use:
MLO
Outlook 2003
gSyncIt
(<http://www.daveswebsite.com/software/gsync/>http://www.daveswebsite.com/software/gsync/
) on Windows which now syncs tasks to native Google tasks
gTasks on Android
1. Create MLO "Restricted Outlook Tasks" View: includes all of the
tasks I want to have mobile (start very limited!!! for example only
Red Flag tasks), plus includes a new category "Google", even if
completed. This means you have to start with "All" in the filter, NOT
ActiveActions, and then have advanced criteria such as (I'm
paraphrasing) "Flag is Red" AND "ActiveAction is True" OR "Contexts
contain Google". (The reason for this is that otherwise, when you
create a new task in Google or on the Droid, it gets to MLO, and MLO
says, "Ah you aren't one of my special restricted Outlook tasks, I'm
going to delete you in Outlook." which then confuses Outlook and
gSyncIt, since of course everyone thinks they are the center of the universe).
Test this - add a new task with Context Google and make sure it shows
up in the view. MAKE SURE YOUR VIEW SETTINGS ARE SAVED - and don't
have an asterisk next to them.
2. MLO Outlook Sync settings: Remove tasks not in view "Restricted
Outlook Tasks": Sync Outlook categories; conflicts: Use MLO data
Test MLO-Outlook Sync, with completions and additions from both
sides. However, when you create a task in Outlook, manually set it's
category to Google.
3. gSyncIt in Outlook Task Sync Settings (verify by looking on Google
on the web)
Manage Tasks in Google Tasks,
Sync Options: Primary Tasks: Outlook
sync both ways
always overwrite older
manually confirm delete
allow delete
remove dups
(I use "continue on error" on/off as a way to force gSyncIt to
re-sync all tasks to Google while testing but leave it off normally)
Categories: check "assign these categories to new tasks..." and then
type "Google" and "add to list" (gSyncIt bug - when you change
something in the sync options this gets unset and you have to change it back).
Now test just the gSyncIt to Outlook sync for a while...make sure
everything works as expected and new tasks from Google get labeled
with "Google" category in Outlook.
Finally test Google to Outlook to MLO, and the other direction.
4. gTasks on Android - no special settings, I use "sync only if open/exit"
Good luck and may the force be with you....
