Yes, that makes sense on the Desktop side. In fact by having Autosynch occur on Save you could get functionality "close" to Evernote's Autosynching which works extremely well. I would just configure MLO to Autosave Every 5 minutes (an option that exists today) and have Autosynch enabled. Due to the additional work added by doing an Autosync with an Autosave, it might be nice to allow the user to specify how often the Autosave occurs in minutes or provide a 10/15/30 minute options.
I think the autosave capability should also be added to the iPhone side like so many task management apps already do like RTM and Toodledo. I know they've struggled in making that functionality work just right, but both are fairly good at autosync on changes, when opening and closing down the apps.
