Ah ha! If I had only tried to sort by importance, I would have seen that it works.
Summary: The computed-score statistics (including importance, urgency, importance&urgency) are calculated (only) if you sort by computed- score. Even if I sort by importance, the "Computed Score" importance field still shows zero (but the items are sorted correctly).
