You don't need to tweak the Contexts, but you can simply use them. For 
instance, in my task list, I have a number of contexts for tracking the task 
assignment and delegation, like "2Bob" and "2Alice" to track the tasks that 
need some input from or communication to Bob or Alice, and special context 
"-->" to denote completely delegated task, that doesn't require my 
assistance any more.

The Contexts *are, *in fact, the custom fields you mentioned.* *
