Firstly where are all these 'PIM', 'project managers', 'dedicated calendar apps' please. I have been looking for something that would help me with forward planning for years and can't find anything.
MS Project is far too complex. And Outlook far too simple. I have started to use Tom Planner which is quite good for planning over the next few weeks but no go good for planning the next few days. That said I would be more than happy in the first instance with what you propose (http://www.mediafire.com/imageview.php?quickkey=d9p2dxhpb5me9uw) as a starting point. What I would then add would be some formatting options that would break the page down into day panels so that I can see each day more clearly (vertically down the page as now with the option to switch a week view of seven panels on one page). And then within each day to have sub-panels (ie groups). I split my tasks into 'Tasks' and 'Fixed appointments' which I further split into starred (top priority) and not starred (what I would like to get done but probably won't) Lets start with some simple improvements to the current Todo view which makes it easier to visualise dates and build from there. There is no consensus about what exactly is required. Some people want a Gantt chart for project management, others want a PIM type calendar view to marry tasks to appointments, others want to balance their task load across days, etc etc. My issue is not only lack of consensus but also development wouldn't stop at "views" and users would want calendars to include ever increasing functionality that would best be done in a PIM, a project manager, a dedicated calendar app or a spreadsheet. I'm afraid this would be a blind alley which would stall development of other, more important, core functionality. There are too many alternative calendar solutions to attract new MLO users or retain old ones. It would be a major waste of time. Having said all that, if calendars were view only, it could be a compromise way forward. I for one have nailed my colours to the mast and already given a mock up of what I would like to see [ https://groups.google.com/d/topic/mylifeorganized/OXyz7ToQMsA/discussion ]. It would be useful if other calendar proponents did the same. At least we would know what we're debating. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MyLifeOrganized" group.
