I have been pleased by the information that new version of MLO will consider calendar view. I would like to share several ideas.
As somebody mentioned in previous discussions about calendar view pros and cons, there is a danger of calendar look of modern Outlook which will accommodate only first several characters or a word or two of the task/appointment with the rest hidden (and only shown when you hover over the text with your mouse where you can see the whole task or appointment in text bubble). Current Outlook users know what I mean – due to tendency to make Outlook calendar as fashionable and modern as possible, less and less textual information is visible in calendars (also due to color backgrounds of the appointments and rounded rectangular shape of the appointments etc.) Here is an example: http://www.keystonelearning.com/userfiles/images/global/Out07Int/image034.jpg Outlook 2003 offered less cluttered interface with much more textual information: http://producejet.com/mike/otherimages/ScreenShot1.jpg But the absolute winner is old EccoPro – easy calendar interface and very small (although customizable) fonts can bring much information into calendar windows. (I cannot find any suitable screenshot on web – in case of interest I can upload a screenshot here). So my suggestion is – very clean and simple interface, ability to use small fonts. Together with ability to choose between only start dates or due dates (to view task as “day appointment”) and between range (from start to due date) as a “multiday bar appointment” this feature would be really very helpful. When I imagine you can combine it with zooming on some folders (ctrl+r) and filtering, this feature will become unbeatable by other software. Another type of calendar view could be classical Gantt view (with scalable details – days, weeks, months), similar to Ganttproject (http://www.ganttproject.biz/). I hope these ideas may help you when thinking about new MLO version. Thank you for your job!
