Problem now solved.

Thanks again Richard.  I had checked the Windows settings in Region
and Languages and everything was as it should be for the UK.

However, I decided to make certain there was nothing wrong so set them
to USA format, restarted the PC, set them back to UK format, restarted
the PC, and now the formats in MLO look right.  The things you have to
do to persuade Windows that you really do want something...!
