I have this problem as well, but I don't think it manifests in quite the same way.
My issue is rather straightforward and predictable. Any recurring tasks that I mark as complete on my iPhone have their start date wiped out. It definitely seems to be in the completion action in the iPhone. All recurring tasks can be perfectly dated on the desktop. 1. I sync the iPhone to re-establish correct dates. 2. I mark a recurring item as complete on the iPhone 3. The task on the iPhone shows NONE for a start date. 4. I sync the iPhone 5. The desktop shows NONE for a start date. 6. I choose to manage the recurrence on the desktop by clicking the [Recurrence] button. Without changing any settings, and clicking [Ok], the start date is now properly set once again.
