So if I understand correctly, you want the most recent on top, and older (more overdue) tasks at the bottom.
I wonder if you assuming that the Back button when selecting Ascending/descending, will save the change. Try going into Sort, and if Ascending is checked, uncheck it. Then, tap on "Due Date" again instead of hitting back. (I think this is a bug in Android, that Back doesn't save a change to Ascending). Unfortunately, it probably won't get you what you want, because if you don't have ascending checked, all the undated tasks come first followed by the ones due in the future (but still active now) and then tomorrow's and then today's.
