Hi, Moon.
A view is really a saved filter.

If there's a view that you find useful, you do not need to adjust any of the
filter settings in order to use it. Just open the view and it will reset all
of the filter settings to the values saved for the view. For example, if you
have the Active filter set to "All" and you load the "Active by Context"
view, it will reset the Active filter to Active.

Once you have loaded a view, if you change the filter settings, you are
saying that you want to change how the view works. For example, "Active by
Context" shows only Active tasks, tasks that are ready to be executed right
now. If you also wanted to see completed tasks and tasks with uncompleted
dependencies you might change the Active filter to "All". Once you do this,
the name "Active by Context" in your view list will have an asterisk before
it: "*Active by Context" - the asterisk shows that you have unsaved changes
to how the view works.

Once you have made a change like this, the next time you load the view you
will get the changed version - in the example, if you load "Active by
Context" it will include tasks that see not active. This could be confusing
- the view dies not show what it's name says it shows. Do, once you edit a
view (and get the asterisk) you should choose one of three possibilities.

1. Maybe you want th is change to be permanent: from now on the "Active by
Context" view will include tasks that aren't active. In this case you should
click "save settings" in the lower left. There will be a pop up asking the
view name, and showing the view you have edited, in this case "Active by
Context". Click Ok and the view will be permanently changed.

2. Maybe you still want to be able to use the original view but you also
want to have this new view. Click "save settings" and overtype the view name
with a new name, like "All by Context" - your changed view will be saved
under this new name and "Active by Context"wool go back to its original
meaning.

3. Maybe the change was something you just wanted to see once and you are
fine with it or maybe it was a mistake. Click "reset settings" in the lower
left and the view wool go back to its original meaning.

If you do not do any of these three, the view will have the changed meaning
until the next time you close and re-open MLO, and then it will reset to the
original meaning.

I'm having a hard time understanding the difference between filters and
views in the ToDo list.

I understand views contain filter settings and can be edited and saved, but
it seems there's redundancy between them. For example, there's an Active
Actions view which, in the user's manual, seems the same as the Active
Filter. If I'm selecting new views it seems that I need to be make sure my
filter is always set to All so that I don't filter my results inadvertently?

Sometimes there's an asterix (*) preceding the name of some of the views,
(based on which filter is selected?), which I also don't understand.

Thank you.
