I +1 this request...

(Did notice this was from 2010 - but as yet the feature is not implemented.)

I also do not use due dates unless a task HAS to be done by a certain date.

Another example of where you'd want recurrence with no due dates:

   - Break a big task into smaller sessions (3x 30min sessions)
      - For example - [Clear shelf unit] ---> [Subtask: Sort old books 
      (15m)] - 3x recurring
   
I do this a lot as I find it effective when not much time is available and 
need to cover a lot of ground; but I don't like to set a due date on the 
recurrent items...
