Ok I figured this one out. When I am using multiple monitors and the reminders window is not on the primary monitor, the reminder window will open in the same location whether the secondary monitor is attached or not. So, the reminder window in my case opened outside of the range of the primary monitor. I found this out by minimizing and restoring the window to see where it went (way off to the right). I then had to set my secondary monitor so that it was to the right of the primary monitor, then pull the reminder window back to the primary monitor.
This would definitely be a problem if you were to take your laptop on the road and didn't have access to a secondary monitor.
