Hi, Emma.

You are on the right track. There are a lot of different ways that people
have found to use workspaces; assigning a life goal to each is one pretty
good approach. But you can't assign a task or project to a workspace just by
adding it there. You have to indicate for each task or project, which
goal(s) it supports, and then tell each workspace which goal to display.

MLO has a lot of power and offers multiple ways of doing things. This makes
for some added complexity, but you will appreciate it as time goes by and
you want more power to accomplish more complex things. There are a few ways
you can mark which goal(s) apply to which tasks. You could set up a flag for
each goal and flag the tasks. You could create a tree structure with a
folder for each goal and put the tasks and projects in the appropriate
folder. You could assign a context for each goal. And I'm sure there are
other solutions. I'm going to work with the tree structure as I think it's
an easier way to keep your tasks sorted as you add new ones. If you found
that you often had a single task that supported multiple goals I would use
contexts instead.

Start by creating a tab all the way to the left, called "outline" and make
sure it is displaying the "all tasks" view. Starting in this left tab,
create your folders, one per goal. You can add tasks and projects to the
folders now or save them for later, it doesn't matter which.

Now, create a tab for each goal. Give each tab a helpful name and make sure
that the two checkboxes about sync are both cleared. For each goal, make
sure it is showing the "all tasks" view. Find the folder for this goal,
right-click on it and select "Zoom In" from the menu that pops up. One last
thing: right-click the tab and select "set as default for this tab" That's
it: each workspace is now zoomed in to one of your goals. Anything you add
will go into that goal's folder.

If the tabs get messed up and start showing the wrong thing, check in the
Outline tab to make sure your folder are still correct. Then double-click
any messed up tab, and it should reset to the correct view.

Subject: [MLO] Can you help understanding the workspace?

Just started using this as a trial...wanted a tool which I could use to set
some life goals and thought if I created a workspace for each of my areas
and add the projects/tasks it would work well. The problem is when I create
a workspace all tasks from all areas show in every workspace...I can't seem
to get them to stay separated. Am I misunderstanding how the workspace tabs
work? Not sure if I'm making this more complicated.
