Maybe I have misunderstood the point here, but when I am adding a new task, 
I hit Alt +L and the contexts pop up for selection....

i.e.
1. Insert for new task
2. Type in the text (do not hit return)
3. ALT + L add contexts ALT +D dates etc etc

Or do you mean it used to jump to the properties pane for context 
selection???

I have not been using MLO for so long, so would not know of previous 
behaviour.....
