Mlo-iPhone v.1 does not use energy at all when in background or when iPhone is locked. The cloud sync started only after you click sync button.
Mlo-iPhone v.2 will sync in background. If there are local changes the sync started automatically in a few second after you switch to other app or lock the phone. The sync usually finishes in 10 sec and after that the energy is not used until you start mlo again.
