Unfortunately, this influences only the "DateScoreContribution" for tasks with start or due date. You can't change the DateScoreContribution for tasks without due dates, it's always zero. It would make more sense to make the DateScoreContribution for such tasks smaller than the minimal DateScoreContribution for all tasks with due date.
In easier terms, the problem is that MLO treats tasks with no due date the same as tasks that are due today. This is simply wrong and in my view one of the most annoying design flaws that foils the whole nice idea behind the computed score ordering.
